On the Surface

"On the Surface" is a complete reworking of the original "On the Surface" which I painted about a year ago. My reference photos were only a guide. The composition was laid out to add drama and contrast between the warm greens and the cool water reflections. This painting is a return to one of my favorite themes. Water reflections. Here the combination of submerged and floating autumn leaves and lily pads, deep reflected overhead tree branches and intense reflected sunlight combine to create, what I feel, is one of my most successful paintings so far this year. I hope you agree.
